How to remove Roller blinds

How to remove Roller blinds

Roller blinds are a popular window blinds option because of their ease of use and high functional value. To maintain the aesthetic that roller blinds add to your space, it is important to care for them and clean them on a regular basis. This is one of the reasons why you might need to remove a roller blind from time to time. In other cases, you might need to remove them for repair, replacement or readjustment. So, are roller blinds easy to remove? Absolutely, if done right. Curious to finally know how to remove a roller blind? Let’s find out.

How to remove roller blinds for cleaning

To remove roller blinds for cleaning, you just have to follow the step-by-step guide given below in this guide. The steps are simple and easy to follow.

Before we get started with the steps, let’s go over the things you need to consider before you start taking the roller blind down.

Considerations to bear in mind before you start taking blinds down

Removing blinds for different purposes might require you to do different kinds of arrangements. For instance, if you are removing roller blinds for replacement purposes, then you do not have to worry about safe storage of the blinds once they are out of the fixtures. You can simply discard the old blinds and replace them with new ones.

On the other hand, when you are removing blinds for cleaning or readjustment purposes, then you need to make sure that the blinds don’t suffer any damage while they are out. In this case, you might need a storage area in place.

Roll the blind up

The first step to take when you are trying to remove roller blinds safely and easily is to pull the blind all the way up. It won’t be possible to remove the blind if it is still open and covering parts of your window. This is due to several reasons-

Keeping the blinds open while you are trying to remove them might also damage the blinds. In cases when you are removing the roller blinds for cleaning, this might cause the unnecessary expense of blind replacement.

So, before you start completely removing the blind, ensure the blinds are completely closed.

Remove the safety clip

Roller blinds that use a cord as their opening and closing mechanism might need an extra step as opposed to the ones that don’t. For blinds with cords, we usually add safety clips to the structure to hold the chains and loops in place. These safety clips avoid the loops from dangling freely. The purpose is to eliminate any chances of strangulation with pets and children.

This step won’t be necessary in case your roller blinds use mechanisms that don’t use cords. But in case they do, you will have to remove the safety clamp before you can start working with the brackets. You would need a screwdriver to remove the safety clip.

Check out each bracket type

Your roller blinds will have brackets with or without cover caps. They can either have hidden brackets that have bracket covers on them, or they could be the ones that do not have any covers. Out of the two brackets, one is supposed to hold the roller blind, and the other is supposed to fix it to the window frame.

In the case of brackets with no covers, you can simply remove the screws using screwdrivers and take the brackets off.

Wondering how to remove roller blinds with hidden brackets? It is fairly simple too. You just have to take the covers off before you can access the brackets.

Another thing to note here is that you won’t need to remove brackets from the walls if you are just removing the blinds for cleaning.

Remove the blinds from the brackets

While you are working with the blind brackets, you would identify the side of the brackets that are being used to hold the roller blinds in place. To release the blinds from the bracket, just lift it. This will create enough space for you to be able to lift the blind off and take it out from under the bracket.

Some blinds are locked into the bracket using a disc. To release the blind in this case, you will have to rotate the disc in a counter-clockwise fashion. And you will heal a clicking sound when the blinds get released from the hold on the opposite side.

Final Thoughts

It is safe to say that roller blinds are a great window blind option considering the wide availability of design options and ease of maintenance. It is very easy to remove roller blinds when needed to tackle all the dirt or to bring the blind forward. All you need is a good understanding of these steps, some patience, and some care.

Roller blinds are also popular because of the wide variety of designs they are available in.
