Choosing Wooden Blinds for a Living Room

Living rooms are usually dry, so real wood is a natural fit: it is lighter than faux wood, which helps on wide windows, and the grain adds warmth. If your living room opens onto a kitchen, faux wood copes better with humidity. Light tones keep a room airy, dark tones add depth and medium woods sit in between. Tapes give a more finished look. Yes. Living rooms are usually dry and get plenty of daylight, which suits wooden blinds. You can tilt the slats to bring light in, soften glare or add privacy, and the natural look works with most styles, from traditional to modern. They are not fully blackout, because the slats have small holes for the cords.

Real wood is the usual choice for a living room because the room is dry, real wood is lighter on wide windows and the grain looks natural. Choose faux wood if the room opens onto a kitchen or tends to be damp, because UPVC is moisture resistant. Both come in a range of colours, with or without tapes.

Start from your floor, furniture and walls. Light tones and white suit smaller or darker rooms, dark tones add depth in a bright room, and grey or cream sit well with most schemes. If you are torn, order free samples and compare them in the room at different times of day.

Yes. Tilt the slats to angle daylight up towards the ceiling or down towards the floor, which softens glare on a screen while still letting light in. Wooden blinds are not blackout, because of the small cord holes, so for a completely dark room choose blackout blinds.

Real wood blinds can be made up to 240cm wide and faux wood blinds up to 250 to 260cm, depending on the design, so check the size range on the product page.
